ELN and Douglas Morrison have a strong commitment to the
communities in which we live. The following are examples of how we serve our
communities for the betterment of all:
Pro Bono Representation/CASA Program. Douglas Morrison routinely represents
a Court Appointed Special Advocate (“CASA”) in Dependency proceedings in
King County Juvenile Court. A CASA is a guardian ad litem appointed by the
Court to represent the interests of children who come before the court.
These are typically children who have been abused or abandoned by their
parents, and are wards of the state. Douglas typically spends more than 100
hours per year on these matters.
YMCA Parent-Child Program. Since 1999, Douglas has participated in the YMCA
Parent-Child program with his son and is currently in the fourth year of the
program with his daughter. This is a richly rewarding program that provides
a great service to the community. Doug has served as Tribal Chief in both
Guides (boys) and Princesses (girls), helping to organize monthly meetings
and numerous activities for a small group of fathers and their children.
Information can be found on the program website at
www.talkalot.org.
Youth Softball Coach--Bellevue East Little League. Doug has
completed his first year as an assistant softball coach of a team of 8 and 9
year old girls.
Youth Baseball Coach--Bellevue East Little League. Doug participated
as an assistant baseball coach for his son's little league baseball teams
from 1998 to 2005, including serving as an assistant coach for the "Majors"
All-Stars team in 2005.
Youth Soccer Coach--Lake Hills Soccer Club. Doug served as head coach for his
son’s recreational soccer team for the 1999 through 2002 seasons. In 2002,
the Boys U10 Hurricanes finished 5-2-2 and in second place in their
Division.
Tam O’Shanter Golf and Country Club. Tam O’Shanter serves as both a golf,
swimming and tennis club as well as a homeowner’s association for the
500-home community in which Doug and his family live. Doug has served the
community in several important ways. As a member and chair of the
Architectural Control Committee for five years, he served as community
liaison for enforcement of the covenants, conditions and restrictions (“CCRs”).
Douglas also served on the Board of Directors for a three-year term. Of note
is the leadership that Douglas provided in successfully organizing revisions
to the CCRs, an effort that required the notarized signature of 75% of the
legal owners of homes in the community.
Big Brothers/Big Sisters of King County. Before having children of his own,
Douglas Morrison spent several years as a Big Brother. Because of the rich
rewards gained by this participation, we would like to acknowledge the
benefits to the community provided by this program and encourage others to
participate. For more information, go to Big Brothers/Big Sisters of King
County.
